Today i should write a biography about a famous person. So today i want to talk about someone who has influenced me a lot which is Donald McKinley Glover Jr. a.k.a Childish Gambino. He is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, director, musician, and DJ.
Donald McKinley Glover Jr. was born on September 25, 1983 at Edwards Air Force Base, California. He was raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia. His mother, Beverly NeeSmith, is a retired daycare provider, and his father, Donald Glover Sr., was a retired postal worker. His younger brother, Stephen, would later become a writer and producer who collaborates with him. He also has a sister named Brianne. Glover attended Lakeside High School and DeKalb School of the Arts, he graduated from the New York University Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in Dramatic Writing
In 2006, Glover become a writer for the NBC sitcom 30 Rock. He was presented the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Series at the February 2009 ceremony for his work. Glover created a musical stage name, Childish Gambino, which came from the Wu-Tang Clan's name generator. In June 2008, he released the independent mixtape Sick Boi. Glover also became a member of the sketch comedy group Derrick Comedy, having appeared in their sketches on YouTube since 2006. Glover became known to a wider audience with Dan Harmon's NBC sitcom Community, which premiered in September 2009 for playing Troy Barnes. But he left on 2014 because he want to be more independent with his carrer
In 2010, a fan suggested Glover for the role of Peter Parker in the then upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man film, encouraging his supporters to retweet the hashtag "#donald4spiderman". He was supported for the role by Spider-Man creator Stan Lee. Sadly, Glover was not given an audition and the role instead went to Andrew Garfield. But Glover inspires comic writer Brian Michael Bendis for creating Miles Morales, an African-American version of Spider-Man. Bendis gave credit to Glover for influencing the looks of Miles after seeing him in Community. Glover later voiced this incarnation of Spider-Man on the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series.
In March 2011, A music video for the song "Freaks and Geeks" was released and Glover announced his nationwide IAMDONALD Tour. Glover worked with friend and film composer Ludwig Göransson on his debut studio album throughout 2011. Prior to its release, Glover signed to Glassnote Records and released the album, Camp, on November 15, 2011, backed by his debut single "Bonfire" and "Heartbeat". Other than music and acting, he also does stand up comedy where his one-hour stand-up special, Weirdo, aired on Comedy Central in November 2011.
He made a lot of mixtapes including his brother Stephen until he released his second studio album, Because the Internet in October 2013. The album yielded the singles "3005", "Crawl" and "Sweatpants". To promote the album, the short film Clapping for the Wrong Reasons, written by and starring Glover, was released prior to the album's release and serves as its prelude. Additionally, a 72-page screenplay made to sync up with the album was also released. A year later, he released a mixtape titled STN MTN and the following day an EP titled Kauai, which spawned the single "Sober" and continues the story told in Camp and Because the Internet. At the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Glover received his first Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album for Because the Internet and Best Rap Performance for "3005".
In 2015, Glover played in The Martian along with Matt Damon, as a astrodynamicist help rescue an astronaut stranded on Mars. Glover also contributed to the soundtrack of Creed providing vocals to the song "Waiting For My Moment". He created a Tv series called Atlanta which premiered on September 6, 2016 for only 10-episode season but it got widespread critical acclaim. Glover writes, directs, produces, and stars in the series as Earnest "Earn" Marks, a Princeton dropout who manages his rapper cousin as they navigate their way in the Atlanta rap scene. The show has been awarded various awards, including Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series and Best Actor also Emmy Awards for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Directing for a Comedy Series.
A year later, Glover debuted songs from his third studio album "Awaken, My Love!" which was released in December, charting at number five on the Billboard 200. This album is a departure from his usual hip hop style as it mostly features him singing rather than rapping and switched genres into psychedelic soul, funk and R&B music. "Awaken, My Love!" produced the singles "Me and Your Mama", "Terrified", and "Redbone" (My favourite song). The album was nominated for both the 2018 Grammy Award for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album, while "Redbone" won for Best Traditional R&B Performance and received nominations for Record of the Year and Best R&B Song. Glover also performed "Terrified" at the award show's 60th ceremony.
Glover played Aaron Davis in the superhero film Spider-Man: Homecoming. Davis is the uncle of the Miles Morales who secretly is a villain named Prowler. The cameo was a surprise treat for fans and as a tribute for Glover's Spiderman movement back in 2010. In April 2017, Time named Glover to its annual "100 Most Influential People in the World. Around that time, Glover also announced his intention to retire the Childish Gambino pseudonym, telling the audience "I'll see you for the last Gambino album" before walking off stage.
In May 2018, he released a single titled "This Is America" while performing hosting and musical guest on Saturday Night Live. This is America won the Grammy for Song of the Year, Best Music Video, Best Rap/Sung Performance and Record of the Year. Glover also portrayed a young version of Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Glover's performance was widely praised. In July 2018, Glover released the Summer Pack extended play containing the songs "Summertime Magic" and "Feels Like Summer". Glover starred in the 2019 remake of the epic musical Disney film The Lion King, as the adult voice of Simba and performing the soundtrack "Can you feel the love tonight" alongside Beyonce. While he also filming a secret project in Cuba titled Guava Island throughout that summer alongside Rihanna. Guava Island was released on April 13, 2019 premiered at Coachella just after his headline performance there.
Glover had influenced me a lot especially since a year back. I first knew him when i heard his song Redbone from a playlist. Since that day i heard a lot of Childish Gambino song. Then i started to find his other creations like his Movies and Tv show until i finally become a fan like what i am now. The thing that i really admire from Glover is his Multitalentedness. He created some of my favourite songs, he created my favourite Tv show, He also played in my favourite movies. He even is also a good Dancer and DJ. He is the most multitalented person in earth and that's why he's my Idol.
